Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, Texas at 0710GMT today, with winds reaching up to 110mph. While there is huge worry over the massive damage that will probably be inflicted on businesses and people’s homes, there also seems to be huge concern over the 23,000 residents that have ignored the evacuation order.
Now, I understand that some people get very attached to their homes (in some cases due to sentimental value, I guess.) Still one has to question the mental health of those who stay behind. What kind of person risks their life in a storm that size, simply because they don’t want to leave their home? Maybe someone can shed some light on this issue in a comment, because I truly don’t understand it.
