Gears Of War 2!

After being let down by COD5, and because it was my birthday last week and the girlfriend had no idea what to get me, we have started conquering Gears of War 2.

We are not very far in but what we have seen so far has impressed us.

We only recently finished the first installment in the series after borrowing it from fx, so what the game was is still fresh in our minds. The first thing we noticed was the additional kill methods. They have added a melee mode where you can finish off downed enemies brutally. This includes having chain saw battles, curb stomping them, beat them to death and more. What worries me the most about these additions is how much Danielle, my girlfriend, enjoys to kill enemies like this :(

The story line also feels more developed and the game play feels more centered around it. I know the first game had a story line, but this one just feels more involved.

Another big change is the way your enemy can now heal eachother. This means that getting them down on the ground and finishing them off later is no longer an option - they will come for you if they can be healed. It makes the game more realistic, a question I asked myself in the first game was “If I can heal my team mates, why can’t they heal theirs?”. This has now been put to rest.

We still have a good couple of hours of gameplay ahead of us and I will give a final impression of the game once we are done with it, but so far I’m loving it. Sadly, COD5 has now been shelved.
