We’re addicted to Fallout 3 at Vault9 (or some of us at least) so feel free to come and join us for a chat or any questions you may have. To sum it up quickly so far though, there’s 3 things I would have liked to know from the start.
This is the same problem some PS3 users had with Oblivion - the reason VATS doesn’t activate is because L2 and R2 aren’t working. This is caused by your PS3 remote not being Controller 1 on the system.
Exit the game, go to Settings and then Accessory Settings; the first option will allow you to set your controller to number 1. After that you can start the game and it should work fine.
If you don’t know, Dogmeat is a canine companion who will follow you around and find things you need throughout the game. However, its easy to never find him and he would have been a big help early in the game.
When you first speak to Moira in Megaton you get a quest to go to Minefield (for the first book chapter), on your way there is a good time to get Dogmeat. A little south and east of minefield you’ll run into an area called “Scrapyard” where you’ll see some raiders attacking a dog - help save the dog and he will join you!
Dogmeat doesn’t count against your 1 partner limit, and when you first go to the Citadel you can recruit a Brotherhood of Steel member. Make sure you run into and speak to “Star Cross Paladin”, a female Brotherhood Paladin who will join you and help out!

Do these apply to the PC version? The first mission I got from Moira was to go to the superduper mart and get food, nothing about Minefield (or a minefield).

Ye definately; perhaps not the bug fix but the Dogmeat does. You will get a mission to go to minefield from her in the first chapter of her book, thats when you should go to the Scrapyard but you can go anytime..

The Super Duper Mart is the 1st in the quest chain, Minefield is No.3 although I think you can choose to do them in any order by picking when you speak to her.

For the wasteland survival guide it also applies to computer. Where you went wrong is, you get to pick which part of the chapter you do first you problbly just didn’t read it. Cause for the first chapter you can pick to do minefield, super duper mart or contract radiation sickness. P.S.The wasteland survival guide is not worth it in my perspective untui you finish the last chapter and get the survival perk

I think the best thing to do after you get out of the vault is go to this website http://planetfallout.gamespy.com/maps/1/Capital-Wasteland, then filter the map to energy weapons only, then find the alien blaster location compare it to your pipboy map and it is pretty precise, so go their also it can two hit the hardest creature on easy so it is worth it.

Meh… Fallout 2 world seemed much bigger.I was dissapointed when i saw that i couldn’t go beyond the boundaries of the “map”.I though there would be other regions, like going to New York or something … AND WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE BOOKS?! I hoped at least 1 flying vehicle (with limited function ofcourse) or some kind of vehicles.I wouldn’t mind seeing scarce/baren wastelands for miles and miles, driving on a scooter for example…
Oblivion is way way better… this one was hyped and all average people falling for the marketing schemes of production houses have contempt from my part. Yes,i am in error comparing 2 different games. But truly,am I that wrong?
The thing is, when people expect alot and then fall short and yet pay alot for a game, they dont want to look stupid. So ,naturaly, most of them don’t admit that and say “its awesome! best game in the world” which is far-fetched considering other games in the gaming history (if you think Fallout 3 is truly better than Morrowind or Oblivion or other classics like MAFIA and Freelancer, you are definitely ON something…)
Yes I am arrogant on purpose.I actualy don’t think everybody here is stupid
But i am dissapointed in this game… and yet, here I am,playing it too. Therefore,I could own myself and say this: which is dumber? The fool? or the fool who follows him ? (hmm…i heard this somewhere before)
Cheers

You also get the perk of wearing power armour in the DLC operation anchorage for free and potentially right at the beginning of the game. I did this and was wearing power armour at level 4.

This game is great, I clocked in 80hrs now and Im addicted, my character is evil (nobodys innocent in this shit) I killed mostly everyone at Rivet City, killed em all at Big Town, I killed Red in her cell went and found Shorty killed him too, I killed most of em at Canterberry Commons, Oaisis, Underworld, I blew up Megaton, I helped the Ghouls take over Tenpenny Tower and I turned my back and killed the Ghouls, I always kill the captive people being held by supermutants throughout the game, I kill those two people that always asks for water, I killed the caravan traders stole their shit, its great, I will start a new game and convert to being the hero. ps its impossible to kill the people at the Citidale or however you spell it I highly discourage my fellow peeps on the Dark Side to never try, even with the Fat Man.

Love the game FO3. But i agree with MINDFEVER that there should have been some kind of transport a dirt bike or anything. It would have made the game more interesting. To tell the truth i expected a wee lil bit more from this game. One has to agree it is a time consuming game, specially when you have to explore on foot. Anywho there are better games then FO that doesn’t mean we are gona stop playing it. Every game is unique and every person has their own psychology and likings, keep that in mind. One more advice, spend less time on your computer, there are better things to do in real life. Try to enjoy it.

also, remember that dogmeat is very vulnerable later in the game and should probably be left in your house in megaton (or tenpenny if you are evil.)

Strange, I don’t see a limit. I’ve got Fawkes and Dogmeat following me around. I do have all the DLC though, probably raised the limit to 2 along with the level to 30.

I got Dogmeat after the end of the game when i was looking for other mission and found out there aren’t any except some that doesn’t relate to the main quest. WTF! if i didn’t wonder around all this time, i can finish this game in a week or less. No wonder they made us move around on our feet, and the Enclaves get to fly the Virtibirds Phhht!! Wait aren’t they the only ones with those. I mean if they can use that kind of technology why not have something to drive on land. And i read about the Add-ons(5 in total!!!! Why..), i mean why? if they were included in the game at the first place, the Whole FO3 experience would have been different and would have made us play the game again and again. Imagine your decisions on the beginning changes where you will be and how the story will end. Why the heck release separate Add-Ons. OR should we guess, the developers didn’t make it to their scheduled deadline and had to find other ways to add the rest of the contents….Hmm funny thoughts!. Anyway maybe its a new way to add flavor to how we play our games.
