Me and my top-gun shooter girlfriend enjoy to kill us some enemies and after dominating Resistance Fall Of Man and Gears of War, we decided to take on Call of Duty World of War (because of the promised awesomeness of the co-op story).

Turns out the promised awesomeness is not so awesome, and more irritating than trying to catch a fly with chopsticks.

First of all, the game does not save your progress. “What?” you may be asking yourself – “That sounds absurd”. No my friend, it is not absurd at all. In order to play the co-op storyline with a “saved game” effect, you must finish the game in single player so you can select which mission you would like to play when starting the co-op game.

We have now played the first 4 levels 5 times. And while being able to kill the hidden Japanese guys because you know where they are can be fun, it gets a bit boring after the 3rd time.

Secondly, grenades are thrown at you apples at a food fight. They just don’t stop coming at you. Ever. You turn a corner and you are standing on one, you try and revive your top-gun shooter team mate and you have to dodge a million grenades one of which will inevitably land straight on your downed team mate killing them and putting you at the start of the checkpoint again.

I am a huge fan of the Call of Duty series and despite some teething issues with COD4, I enjoyed playing it an unnaturally amount of time online with fx.

I have read other reviews of the game bringing up similar gripes and I can only hope the next release in the franchise brings more to the table in the same way COD4 did.

If you like the series, borrow the game from a friend and decide for yourself whether or not it’s worth the R700 ($70) it’s retailing for on console. Personally, I’m not so sure it is.
