Chocolate Cake In 5 Minutes!

Here it is, the infamous chocolate cake in a cup recipe. [Digg Here!]

The original blog at dizzy-dee.com was unfortunately taking alot of hits and Dee’s poor blog could not handle the traffic because of her cake in a cup blog entry.

But here it is for your pleasure. enjoy!

Heres how to make an awesome cake in a cup in just 5 minutes

Ingredients:

4 Tablespoons cake flour
4 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons milk
3 Tablespoons oil
1 Mug

Instructions:

Mix flour, sugar and cocoa:

spoon in 1 egg

Pour in milk and oil, and mix well

Put in microwave for 3 minutes on maximum power (1000watt)

Wait until it stops rising and sets in the mug

Tip contents out of mug onto saucer and enjoy!

and there you have it!

This is a lovely little recipe! I made it with half-and-half (no milk) and bread flour, and cooked it in one of those huge soup mugs. I also added walnuts. Delicious, and I look forward to hearing more variations/suggestions!

I think that possibly some people took the name of the cake literally - and put it in the microwave for 5 minutes. The recipe specifically says put it in the microwave for three (3) minutes - the time it takes to mix it up AND nuke it takes 5 minutes. I’ll try it with my own variations - thanks for the recipe!

Hey Supa,
I must admit that I try this and with great successes. It rise very tall over cup using normal white flour, not specialty suggested here. Carefull to blend egg before adding to mixture or else you will get chunk’o'egg throughout cake.

Mkay… It did’nt work for me quite like the picture… I came out with A lil cake in the mug and a Puddle of Chocolate Awesome sauce. I guess it was becouse I did’nt have eggs or self rising flour but this stuff tastes good.

This cake is really good. Ive tried it many times in the past. Im making one now as im sending this. Really nice stuff. I just use a bit more sugar and coco.

i used multipurpose flour instead, add a bit baking powder, reduced sugar. microwave at high (100%). but ended up dry and hard. what did i do wrong?

This does have a different texture than oven cake, but that’s to be expected. If you have a cake craving but can’t be trusted with a whole cake in the house, this is a good solution. I didn’t have any milk so I substituted Silk Nog and I used light sour cream instead of oil to lighten it up a bit. It wasn’t the greatest cake I have ever had, but it quelled my chocolate craving and wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet. I’ll definitely make it again.

I tried this recipe last night and realized I didn’t have oil so I decided to use shortening. Mixed two tablespoons in with the dry ingredients with a fork until it was very well mixed in. I then added my egg, chocolate chips and two tablespoons of chopped walnuts. Put it in the microwave for five minutes. After a minute I realized I forgot the milk…oops. BUT, it still rose nicely and I checked for doneness at three minutes. Perfect doneness! I took it out, cooled it off and inverted it onto a plate. Have to say this was AWESOME! More like a brownie than a cake. I proceeded to try the recipe again adding the milk. It was yuck! I’ll stick to my version of this recipe. Give it a try, you’ll love it.

Mmmm!
I just made it for the 2nd time, this time I threw in 1/4 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract and added some chocolate chips and glazed walnuts. Def. add the vanilla.
I also didn’t have any eggs, but it was no problem.

OK, the cool thing about this is you can put it together so quick and as I said in the above post , “make it your own”. Yes , a lot of people mention that it “rubber-ish”…but lets be real folks……what DOESN’T come out that way when cooked in a micro wave?! I have made this treat even tonight and in cutting the time a bit and adding my own touch it came out GREAT! The ingredient amounts listed MUST be for a large mug! I used two normal coffee cups , split the batter between the two and dereased cooking time by 35 sec. Thing is if you have a true knack for cooking in the first place , you could go wild with this.;)

This is a great idea , I love it! I DID make it. The first time , however , it was a bit rubbery and really not all that great, (no offense). BUT , upon further experimentation, found that the instructions kind of leave it over cooked.(FYI, I am not a diva when it comes to microwave cooking anyhow!)
I split the recipie one more time between two mugs, average sized that is, and reduced the cooking time a bit, PLUS , I added a few chips and that sort.
For a more moist version, try reducing the cooking time or useing a bigger egg may solve the problem. The point is , the blue print has been layed out , make it “your own” after that!

I have to laugh at your google ads for this post. On the right…chocolate cake recipes. On the left…1 rule for a flat stomach. Talk about guilt.

First time around, this cake was a little strange but still very tasty! We put icing on it and it was good. Second time around we put 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract in it and it was delicious! Doesn’t even need icing but it was still yummy with it.

This cake is awful. The chocolate (cocoa) is overpowering and it is hardly sweet; it is very bland tasting. You actually have to add certain toppings on this “chocolate cake” to make it taste decent such as whipped cream or maple syrup. It doesn’t stop there, the texture of this thing is strange. It’s a cross between rubber and a hard, dry loofah which is unpleasant. This is what you get with a 5 minute microwaved cake. Let’s face it, if you want good chocolate cake then you make it the correct way which means NOT nuking it in the microwave for 3 minutes. If you just want something sweet and are too lazy to cook it traditionally then go the store and by some cake.

Sorry, I tried this for the first and last time today. Three co-workers and I all thought it was icky. Not sweet enough, kind of rubbery, oily in the bottom of the mug, and the microwave was a mess. Nice concept though. I’ll keep looking for a recipe that turns out more brownie-like, I think. Thanks for the inspiration.

I have made this wonderful little cake about 4 times. I throw in some chocolate chips and walnuts and top it off with cool whip. Very good when you’re in the mood for something chocolate and have nothing in the house. Thank you for the recipe.

I’ve tried this recipe and the cake came out quite dry and kind of rubbery so I’ll cook it for less time next time round, but it really is an excellent, quick, simple way to get your cake fix! Lovely with a bit of cream and some choccie flakes though!
