In a rather odd way, Google seems to have announced their own open source browser. Although the announcement is not quite official, it was written about, in some detail, in a comic book by Scott McCloud. The comic also mentioned several Google developers, which is a somewhat convincing case that this is not just a rumour. The comic can be found here. If this is just a scam of some sort, it seems quite elaborate.
Assuming this is real and an official announcement from Google is on its way, I think they are going to find it tough to steal market share from Firefox. It’s been around for very long and I, for one, have grown quite attached to it. So lets keep our address bars pointed to www.google.com/chrome and see what happens.
